Charity Calls for Drivers Aged Over 85 to Undergo Driving Test Resits The charity IAM RoadSmart has warned that, in their opinion, drivers over 85 represent a demographic timebomb. They want anyone in this age group to have to re-sit a driving test for the well-being and safety of them and other road users. Currently, we have around 1.65 million motorists on the roads who are older than 80—included in this figure of 510 people who have crossed their centenary and are now over 100 and still driving. Blood Tests Introduced for Accidents Due to Lack of Sleep Drivers who are suspected of causing an accident because they are overtired and lacking sleep, could now be subject to a new blood test that will be used as evidence to prosecute. Smart Motorways Being Given the Boot The government is pulling the plug on the development of new smart motorways across the United Kingdom due to significant concerns over both cost and safety. Currently, we have 14 smart motorway projects in the UK, 11 have already been put on hold, and there were about to begin construction. However, these will all be revoked because of financial concerns and the fact that there is no public trust.
