AA Charitable Trust Warns Against Delaying Essential Vehicle Repairs Drivers are being encouraged to stay on top of vehicle upkeep, as new research reveals that many continue to put off essential repairs. A recent AA survey of 13,481 drivers shows that more than one in five (22%) admitted they had postponed repairs identified during an MOT or routine check because they were short of time. Neglected Tyres and Brakes Drive High MOT Failure Rate in UK Vans Figures show that 2021-registered vans recorded a 25.9% failure rate, compared with 12.6% for non-LCVs of the same age, and TyreSafe says the findings point to systemic neglect rather than random faults, with brakes and tyres responsible for a significant proportion of failures. Verifleet’s data also reveals that around a quarter of tyre failures at subsequent MOTs were previously recorded as advisories, suggesting that ignored warnings are directly fuelling the high failure rate. Mercedes-Benz Actros Awarded Five-Star Euro NCAP Safer Truck Rating The Mercedes-Benz Actros has achieved a top five-star score in Euro NCAP’s latest Safer Truck tests, joining a small group of heavy goods vehicles recognised for outstanding safety performance. Euro NCAP began rating trucks in 2024, and this year’s round of testing assessed 10 of the most widely used rigid HGVs, representing around 95% of Europe’s long-haul fleet market. Vehicles were scored across three phases of accident management: Safe Driving, Crash Avoidance, and Post-Crash Safety, as well as being eligible for an additional CitySafe label to indicate suitability for urban operations.
